Nanosys has won the SID Display Week 2017 Component of the Year Award for it's Hyperion Quantum Dot technology. These new quantum dots enable displays to meet the BT.2020 ultra-high-definition (UHD) color standard without requiring an exemption to the Restriction on Hazardous Substances (RoHS) Directive issued by the European Union.

Nanosys also won an award in the small-exhibit category for its quantum-dot TVs. Nanosys’s Display Week demonstration included three matched 65-in. UHD TVs (Fig. 6). Each of the sets used the same color filters, underlying LEDs and direct-lit backlight structures. They were also driven at the same settings from the same content. The only difference was in the phosphor used to create white light in the backlight. These were: conventional white LEDs, Nanosys’s Quantum-Dot-Enhancement Film, and Nanosys’ Cadmium-Free Quantum-Dot- Enhancement Film. The differences in color performance without noticeable brightness loss were striking. Rec.2020 color-gamut coverage ranged from <60% for the white LED set to ~75% for the set with cadmium-free quantum dots to >90% for the set with quantum dots. This demonstration showed that cadmium-based quantum dots have a significant performance advantage over other phosphor materials and that Rec.2020 is achievable today. •

The Materials Research Society (MRS) has selected Peidong Yang, Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, to receive the 2011 MRS Medal. This prestigious honor recognizes a specific outstanding recent discovery or advancement that is expected to have a major impact on the progress of a materials-related field. Yang was named MRS medalist for "outstanding contributions in the creative synthesis and assembly of semiconductor nanowires and their heterostructures, and innovations in nanowire-based photonics, thermoelectrics, solar energy conversion and nanofluidic applications." Next generation LED displays will have exceptional color quality, lower power usage
Nanosys congratulates LG Innotek (LGIT) on winning the CES Innovations 2011 Design and Engineering Award in the Enabling Technologies product category for their QD BLU, an LED display backlight unit that incorporates Nanosys’ QuantumRail™ technology.
Nanosys and LGIT have worked together over the last year to develop a new approach to LED display backlighting, based on quantum dot technology, that will enable the screens of mobile devices to display richer colors while using less energy. A demonstration of the QD BLU will be featured at LGIT’s booth at the 2011 International CES January 6-9, 2011.
