Steven Goldby

Chairman of the Board of Directors


Mr. Goldby, a partner at Venrock, has served as the chairman of the Board of Directors since April 2008. For nine years, Mr. Goldby was chief executive officer of Symyx Technologies. Prior to Symyx, he was the chief executive officer of MDL Information Systems. Before MDL, he held various management positions at Alza Corporation, including President of Alza Pharmaceuticals. He was also president of Dynapol, and is a registered patent attorney. Mr. Goldby holds an A.B. in Chemistry from the University of North Carolina and a J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center.

Bruce Berkoff

Mr. Berkoff has a long history and a wealth of global experience in the technology industry, having held key marketing (CMO) positions at several leading display and solar related companies. Bruce is currently the Chairman of the LCD TV Association, and CMO at CBRITE, a leader in metal oxide technology for FPDs. Previously, Bruce was the Chief Marketing Officer (CMO), and strategy officer, of the Energy and Display Systems group at Applied Materials (the world’s factory equipment leader in display, solar, and semiconductors), involved with their display, solar, LED, OLED and battery products (including PECVD, PVD, and MOCVD). Prior to that, he was CMO of Ascent Solar. Mr. Berkoff holds undergraduate and graduate degrees in physics and biophysics from Princeton and the University of California, Berkeley, respectively, plus display-related patents both granted and pending in the U.S. and China. Mr. Berkoff has sat on the boards of at least five publicly traded companies, including LG Display (LPL), InFocus (INFS), and UniPixel (UNXL).

Nelson Chan

Mr. Chan served as chief executive officer of Magellan, a leader in the consumer, survey, GIS, and OEM GPS navigation and positioning markets, from 2006 to 2008. From 1992 through 2006, Mr. Chan served in various senior management positions with SanDisk Corporation, including most recently executive vice president and general manager, consumer business. From 1983 to 1992, Mr. Chan held marketing and engineering positions at Chips and Technologies, Signetics, and Delco Electronics. Mr. Chan is a member of the Board of Directors of Silicon Laboratories Inc., a public company which is a fabless, analog-intensive mixed-signal semiconductor company and Synaptics Inc., a public company that is a leading worldwide developer and supplier of custom-designed human interface solutions that enable people to interact more easily and intuitively with a wide variety of mobile computing, communications, entertainment, and other electronic devices. Mr. Chan is also a director of several privately held companies. Mr. Chan holds a B.S. in electrical and computer engineering from the University of California at Santa Barbara and an M.B.A. from Santa Clara University.

Keith Crandell

Mr. Crandell, a co-founder and a Managing Director of ARCH Venture Partners, has served as a member of the board of directors since December 2007. He previously served as senior manager at ARCH Development Corporation, where he was responsible for ARCH Venture Fund I activities at Argonne National Laboratory. He is a director of Digital Genomics, AlfaLight, Adesto, CelebrateExpress, and Crystal IS. Mr. Crandell also serves as a director of the Illinois Venture Capital Association and the National Venture Capital Association. Prior to the founding of ARCH, Mr. Crandell served the specialty chemical and polymer company, Hercules, Inc. He holds an M.B.A. from The University of Chicago, an M.S. in Chemistry from the University of Texas at Arlington, and a B.S. in Chemistry and Mathematics from St. Lawrence University.

Jason Hartlove

CEO and Member of the Board of Directors


Jason Hartlove joined Nanosys in 2008 with a proven track record of turning emerging technologies into successful commercial products. His vision for Nanosys has led the company to focus on high-growth markets with urgent pain points that Nanosys technologies are uniquely positioned to solve such as vibrant, efficient displays for portable devices.

Prior to joining Nanosys, he was president of the Imaging Solutions Division of MagnaChip Semiconductor in Seoul, South Korea, where he turned an internally focused semiconductor group into a multinational company on track for an IPO. Before MagnaChip, Hartlove was vice president and general manager of the Sensor Solutions Division of Agilent Technologies, a Hewlett-Packard owned company. At Agilent, he led the commercial development and application of optical position sensing technology, which resulted in everyday products like the optical mouse and image sensors for digital cameras.

Hartlove is the author of more than 20 patents, including the winner of the Hewlett Award in 2004 for best patent. He holds a B.S. in electrical engineering from UCLA and has completed graduate work at the Anderson School of Management at UCLA.





Dr. Hong has served as a member of the board of directors since 2017. He is currently the Executive Vice President of Samsung Venture Investment Corp. More details to come soon.

Dr. Joun-ho Lee

Dr. Joun-ho Lee has served as a member of the board of directors since 2018. He received a B.S. and an M.S. degree in electronic engineering from Kyunpbook National University, Daegu, Korea, in 2005 and 2007 and a Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering from Pusan National University, Busan, Korea, in 2008. He joined LG Display in 1997 where he now works as a division leader of Material Research Division. His principal research work has been in the areas of material development, optical design for flat panel displays.

Regis McKenna

Regis McKenna Inc

Mr. McKenna has served as a member of the board of directors since April 2002. Mr. McKenna has worked as a marketing consultant to technology companies since 1970. He is currently chairman of Regis McKenna, Inc., a private firm, which he founded, specializing in the development of marketing information and network-based business strategies. Mr. McKenna also serves as a general partner of his venture firm, McKenna Ventures, L.P., an investment partnership specialized in investments in early stage companies. Mr. McKenna holds a B.A. in liberal arts from Duquesne University.

John Young

Member of the Board of Directors

Mr. Young has served as a member of the board of directors since March 2004. He served as president and chief executive officer of Hewlett-Packard Company from 1978 to 1992 and served in other capacities at Hewlett-Packard from 1958 to 1978. Mr. Young currently serves as the chairman of Ciphergen Biosystems, Inc. He also serves on the boards of directors of Affymetrix Inc., Perlegen Sciences, Inc., Fluidigm Corporation and Lucent Technologies, Inc. Mr. Young holds a B.S. in electrical engineering from Oregon State University and an M.B.A. from Stanford Graduate School of Business.

Greg Yurek

Dr. Yurek, was chairman and chief executive officer from 1989 to 2011 of American Superconductor Corporation, a power technologies company that he co-founded in 1987. He was professor of materials science and engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology from 1976 to 1988. Dr. Yurek is a member of the National Academy of Engineering and holds a Professional Director Certification from the American College of Corporate Directors. He holds B.S. and M.S. degrees in metallurgy from Pennsylvania State University and a Ph.D. in metallurgical engineering from Ohio State University
